MR OCHA, born on March 2nd, 1959, in the vibrant city of Detroit, Michigan, was destined for a life far from ordinary. Raised by his mother Stella, a devoted stay-at-home mom, and his hardworking father William, who toiled in Detroit’s auto industry, Martin’s upbringing was shaped by the rich tapestry of urban life, replete with gangs and social discord.
Determined to carve his own path, Martin sought adventure and purpose beyond the confines of factory life. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the US Army on April 10th, 1977, embarking on a journey that would shape his identity and passion for service. From the moment he set foot in the US Army Field Artillery Training Boot Camp at Ft. Sill, OK, Martin knew he had found his calling.
Stationed in Germany at the small US Army post of Pinder Bks in Zirndorf, Martin immersed himself in military life, relishing the challenges and camaraderie that came with it. Martin’s dedication to his duty as a soldier remained unwavering.
His exemplary performance led to his involvement in the Special Weapons program, where he served as a custodian agent for the unit’s nuclear deployment program, honing his skills through rigorous field duty and real-life training scenarios.
After his military service, Martin remained in Germany, where he worked for many years. Over the course of 23 years, he traversed the European landscape, living in 10 different countries and immersing himself in diverse cultures. Fluent in German and Sicilian, Martin’s experiences provided him with a unique perspective on the world, from its breathtaking beauty to its stark realities.
The locales depicted in his book hold a special significance for Martin, as each one bears witness to his adventures and encounters. Through his writing, he shares the full spectrum of human experience, from the highs of exploration to the lows of adversity.
Martin’s unwavering love for his country and its military shines through in his words, honoring the bravery and sacrifice of America’s finest heroes. Now residing in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin for the past 25 years, Martin continues to draw inspiration from his rich and varied life experiences, weaving them into captivating tales for readers to enjoy and cherish.
